As we inch closer to the closing of 2024, move into winter, honoring and celebrating the winter solstice, may we do so with a gentle calm spirit and a soft heart. Forgiving ourselves for our shortcomings and holding more love and compassion for self and each other.

We all feel it, she too humble to show it, forever she has changed my life.

When she came in to Pono, that’s when Pono came alive. I’ve never met anyone like her before. Solid, an angel, a true reflection of balance and steadfastness. A beauty in all the ways, and artist with precision and integrity, grace and humor. Rhythm like she’s on soul train, she tears up the dance floor once she lets loose.

I can’t even write this without my eyes filling with oceans. We’ve had the best laugh sessions ever. She means the world to me. Not because she is my “employee” but because she is my friend and she is family. She is my sister, my inspiration and my children’s aunty Jessie. She is the one who has supported me on a level that is indescribable. From saving me when morning sickness took me out, to barber chairs needing to go through customs, random randomness that just pops out of me like a jack in the box. She has held me and Pono down. My angel, my anchor.

We come from such different cultures and I’ve been embracing all of the lessons and wisdom she brings. I wanted my Jessie to feel showered with so much love and I just wanted to make her feel as special as she is, as she is that to sooooo many.

We haven’t made it to the Amalfi Coast just yet, so we brought it to the Hillside of Oaktown. Making it just a day full of sisterhood, joy, laughter, some silly naughty stuff and her favorite things-food, and sweets.

Jess, I love you sooo much! You’ve shown me by your actions that honest people do exist. not by empty promises and words but by your actions who you are, and I bow my head as I see this princess turn into a queen on her throne!(she the queen in my coming to America voice)

I know you hate the spot light but beeesh it be your time to shine!!!

You are an exceptional human! Cheers to you Jess!!!!

I have completed my 45th trip around the sun.
I have recently shaved my hair for the second time in my life’s journey.

This shedding process is very intentional and spiritual for me. It allows me to cycle back and see myself through a wider lens - the bigger picture, a clearer vision, from deeper within.

Isn't it something, how we are so eager to remove the hair from our bodies, yet so terrified by the idea of removing it from our heads?

For so long myself, and so many others, have hid behind our hair. Shedding all of that has forced me to be present with myself.

So while shaving my hair has served as empowering and liberating experience, it has also been a vulnerable and scary one. But I suppose that’s what it’s all about.

With the new moon in Virgo, I bled. I shed. I give thanks. As I fast, I'm hella hearing the spirit, and that spiral back into myself deepens.

Ready to be reborn into my 45th year. Ready to enter into a rebirth of self... I am loving myself fully.

This transformation is about letting go, releasing, shedding and relinquishing to the fear of the unknown.

While there is so much I have yet to understand, there is so much I know for certain.

Maybe it's not about completing another rotation.
Maybe it's about embarking on another one.

It’s #NationEstheticianDay, and we want to take this opportunity to talk about not just normalizing, but honoring our body hair.

Whether we’re talking about brows, bikinis, or underarms, we want to encourage loving ourselves exactly as the divine made us.

Embracing what our hair is, how it grows on us, and why it does.
Hair grows around every orifice, and it’s purpose is to protect us.

There’s a long history behind why hair has been removed, but we want to acknowledge that now, we have the choice to decide whether or not to keep it.

If you do chose to remove some of it (or all of it) we are a beautiful group of women who know just how sacred that choice is, and will make the experience as comfortable as possible for you.

As esthetician’s, removing body hair can feel conflicting.

On one hand, our livelihood depends in part on the removal of the hair. On the other, we think body hair is beautiful.

When our clients returned to us after the pandemic, it was wonderful to see clients that used to ask for full Brazilians, now wanting to keep a little triangle of hair down there.

The evolution of yoni waxing (second slide):
-70’s: a full bush with more hair removed little by little
-80’s + 90’s: landing strips paired with high cut bathing suits and panties
-Early 2000’s: intro the Brazilian wax… EVERYTHING off.

It feels like we’ve begun to come full circle, with more and more women wanting to embrace the natural.

At Pono, we want to encourage women to leave some hair. To clean up the backside and bikini line, while leaving a triangle to match the beauty of their own hips and body size. 🌿
